Garage Gym to Tuff Shed Gym – The Ultimate Upgrade
Lynn needed a new space to work out.
As a retired firefighter, she’s no stranger to working out and being active; she’s been doing it her entire life. Lynn is a competitive cyclist, she loves to weightlift, and she won’t be stopping anytime soon. So, when her husband’s at-home business started overtaking her garage gym, she went looking for a solution.
A public gym wasn’t an option (after working out at home for 20 years, there’s no going back). Eventually, she was between hiring a contractor or installing a Tuff Shed. When the bid from her contractor came back about twice as much as a Tuff Shed building…her decision was made.
Take one guess what happened.
(She picked Tuff Shed.)
Tuff Shed Part One
Funny story, Lynn had heard of Tuff Shed before…because she already had one.
Let’s rewind. About 10 years ago, Lynn desperately needed a new garden shed.
“We had an older shed and it was falling apart,” said Lynn. “We saw someone else’s Tuff Shed, and the quality you got for the dollar spent was incredible. There wasn’t really a choice to be made.”
Her first Tuff Shed was installed in less than a day, and it’s still standing.
“The building has held up incredibly well,” said Lynn. “I can’t believe it still looks brand new even though it’s been up almost a decade.”
So, it makes sense that when she needed a spot for a new home gym, Tuff Shed was on her radar.
Designing Her Second Tuff Shed

Fast forward to Tuff Shed round two.
“I started the design process online, but I like to touch and feel things before I buy them,” said Lynn. “I went to the Sacramento showroom and met Tim Sheline. He was so patient and knowledgeable; I felt very confident walking out that I was getting exactly what I wanted.”
After discussing county building codes, looking at styles, and checking out colors, they ultimately decided on a 12 x 16 Premier PRO Tall Ranch. The building features custom outswing French doors, two horizontal sliding windows, and four transom windows. They also upgraded to 16” OC Joist Spacing and Double Layer Floor Sheathing.
“It’s a gym, you’re going to drop stuff,” said Lynn. “So, beefing up the floor was definitely the right move.”
Both her house and the original Tuff Shed are a light gray color, so she wanted something different. She chose to paint her home gym Sheffield Gray with Delicate White trim.
The Home Gym Install

Since this wasn’t Lynn’s first Tuff Shed install, she knew what to expect. A Tuff Shed would magically appear in her backyard in less than a day! (Just kidding.)
“Two young gentlemen got to the house and worked their butts off,” said Lynn. “A third guy came and helped install the French doors. They all did such a great job, I think it took them about 12 hours.”
Lynn ran electricity in her building and then loaded up her equipment. Her home gym features an Olympic setup, barbells, and a spot for rings and pull-up bar.
“My neighbors are very jealous,” said Lynn. “I told them they all can get a free membership; they just have to bring some dog biscuits for my dog.”

Now that Lynn has a new Tuff Shed, she’s back to home gym life. AKA working out in pajamas with a cup of coffee to start the day.
“I love having the gym here at home,” said Lynn. “It makes working out just like brushing your teeth. It’s such a habit.”
